Preview: Marc Jacobs Beauty

Hi folks!

Yes, I know I’ve been gone for a looonnnggg time (and an even longer story) but I’m back and guess what I’ve brought with me? Not just a preview, but some nice picspam of the new Marc Jacobs Beauty collection that premiered at Sephora on August 9th!

Marc Jacobs Beauty coming to Sephora on 9 August 2013!

Marc Jacobs Beauty has come to Sephora as of 9 August 2013!

Sephora addicts, I mean, VIB’s got the chance to purchase from a select few items for 48 hours and the two products I chose were the Magic Marc’er eyeliner and Lust for Lacquer lip vinyl in ‘Stolen Kisses’.

‘Stolen Kisses’ Lip Vinyl by Marc Jacobs Beauty – $28

Me being the lip gloss junkie that I am, I picked up Stolen Kisses–a lovely deep raspberry with shimmer and a sheer finish. Reminds me of a Wet & Wild lipgloss I could barely afford when I was a high school student in the 80’s (yes, dating myself here). Wore a really nice few hours (about three) through Wawa coffee, a glass of water and tea. I reapplied it after a few hours purely because I love the tingly feel. It just feels good to put on!

However, at the $28 price tag I was a bit torn about purchasing another. My gold standard in lipgloss, Illamasqua intense lip gloss, comes in at around $20 and has more staying power and intense color. But in Marc Jacobs’ favor his lip vinyls have a little ‘paddle’ foot applicator (Illamasqua’s has a small brush) which is wonderful for gals like me who have very full lips. Now I did get a chance to see the entire lip vinyl collection in person and was pleased to find out that unlike Stolen Kisses, there are more opaque lip vinyls that literally were packed with color. Truth Or Dare and Boom Boom! are tops on my list for my next haul.

Magic Marc’er in ‘Blacquer’ – $30

20130804-212304.jpg

Picked this calligraphy-style eyeliner pen in Blacquer. Love, love, LOVE how balanced this felt-tipped eyeliner feels in my hand to produce such a precisely lined eye it’s to die for. When I say ‘balanced’, I mean the design makes it easier to concentrate on where you want to exactly line your eyes and it is very easy to use whether you are a novice or an expert. The black is very black. One of my biggest pet peeves about black eyeliner is that most of the ones on the market are ‘off black’. This one is anything but.

If I had to buy just *one* item from the Marc Jacobs Beauty collection it would be this eyeliner. The fact this eyeliner is manufactured in Japan is not to be overlooked. Once you hold in in your hands, and see how easy it is to line your eyes, you’ll wonder what you ever did without this. On a side note, you could tuck this baby in with your folio alongside of another pen and who would know the difference but you?

Marc Jacobs Beauty Nail Polishes — Love the bottle design and the colors.

Love the photography on this campaign! Also, the Vamp eyeshadow palette (erroneously labeled as The Lolita) is my favorite for Fall. I wish the case wasn’t plastic though.

Happy 2013!!! – Emerald: Panetone’s Color of the Year

Happy New Year Everyone!

I am super-excited that Panetone has announced for it’s color of the year…emerald!

Emerald: Panetone's 2013 Color Of the Year!

Emerald: Panetone’s 2013 Color Of the Year!

As a brown-eyed girl with a cinnamon mocha latte complexion, I live for emerald green. It’s a color that looks so regal on its own or even used to create a unique and sultry smokey eye. Green is a color of the Sky-Earth-Grass trinity I consider to be as work-safe as it is versatile. Keep checking my blog for some upcoming looks to keep your makeup wardrobe on the bleeding edge of fashion. For sure Sephora will put a line of products out but in the meantime, here is a look from my emerald stash:

Preview: Sephora’s New Nail Bar!

Hello, dear readers!

I’m back from vacay at Disney World but am in the throes of moving to a new place.  Moving stinks but where I’m moving to is just amazing.  Plus I’ve got a great garden view right where my blogging ‘workshop’ will be.

Anyways, this past weekend I was at Sephora in the Willow Grove Mall and  happened to notice the new nail bar. Why is this nail bar so exciting? Because the top row of polishes was all Illamasqua! ::makeup addict squeal::

20120415-210011.jpg

Illamasqua polishes line the top row of Sephora's new Nail Bar like tropical Skittles

DISCLOSURE > I own stock in LVMH which is the parent company of Sephora and Dior.

There are very few Sephora stores that carry Illamasqua.  For me the only two I know of are in King of Prussia, PA (which I frequent) and 5th Avenue in NYC.  Illamasqua is my favorite nail polish in the $12 – $16 price range and the fact that it is available in a Sephora closer to me in location is an excellent bonus.  No more motoring to the KoP mall or waiting for the order from Sephora or overseas directly from Illamasqua.

20120415-210057.jpg

And look what was on the Illamasqua row? Nail Varnish shades in Nomad and Stance from Human Fundamentalism.

Speaking of Sephora, has anyone seen the Human Fundamentalism nail polishes in stores yet?  I lucked out and found Nomad and Stance among the polishes at the Nail Bar and yes, pickings were very slim for these two shades.

20120415-210022.jpg

2nd row is all Dior polishes while the 3rd row is all Julep polishes.

Nicely ensconced in the second and third rows of the Nail Bar display were Dior and Julep polishes.  Dior polishes are an indulgence I’ve recently gotten into as I adore the long-wearing formula of the nail polish and the sophisicated yet edgy chic of the color palette.  Julep is a brand I’ve heard very good things about but haven’t tried as yet.  From what I saw in the display, Julep has a color palette very similar and ‘out there’ like Illamasqua. Julep polishes are definitely on my ‘must try’ nail polish list.

20120415-210032.jpg

Bottom rows: SpaRitual polishes!!! Love these!

Just when I thought the Nail Bar couldn’t offer any more goodness, what do my eyes spy? A whole slew of SpaRitual polishes!  I was introduced this wonderful brand when I got a manicure at Disney’s Grand Floridian Spa.  The innovative rubber cap aside, the color palette is very diverse, exciting and the formula is one of the smoothest I have ever used at around a $10 price point polish.  Previously I could only get SpaRitual at Disney World or from etailers such as Beauty.com and SkinStore.com. I’m so glad Sephora is now stocking their shelves with a sampling this wonderful brand.

From what I hear these are gradually rolling out to some Sephora stores so keep an eye out. Nail Polish is getting bigger and bigger in the beauty biz so I’m very pleased to see all of these great brands in one place. If a nail bar isn’t in your local Sephora (and I don’t believe Sephora @JCPenney will be getting them at this time) ask when it’s coming.

So who’s excited?

Sephora V.I.B. Discount Event!

Yes, it’s that time again when Sephora sends their shopaholics the coveted event bringing shock and awe.  Look what landed in my mailbox today…

20120326-192009.jpg

Sephora VIB Spring Event - 29 March 2012 - 6 April 2012

Billed as “9 Full Days of Savings For a Stylish Spring”, Sephora invites all VIBs to a special Chic Week event with a special ‘preview day’ on March 29, 2012 in all Sephora stores, Sephora inside JCPenney and Sephora.com (use code CHICVIB for US checkout only). The event runs from 29 March through 6 April of 2012. If the preview day is anything this year like it was last year, be prepared for sheer craziness, long lines and people acting as if they’ve never seen a Sephora before in their lives. If you aren’t a VIB but know one, try to ask politely/bribe/kidnap one as VIBs can bring a friend with them on March 29 to also get the discount. Pay it forward, folks!

Sephora VIBs -- Resistance, is futile.

So, any of you VIB readers planning on hauling anything for 15% off? I’d highly suggest snagging the NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer and the Illamasqua Human Fundamentalism palettes.

Preview: Illamasqua’s Human Fundamentalism [Spring/Summer 2012]

Yes, fellow makeup addicts, Illamasqua, the edgy cosmetics house which sponsors your ‘alter ego’, has rolled out a collection that is truly spectacular for Spring/Summer 2012.

20120311-211323.jpg

Stunning photography to herald Illamasqua's Human Fundamentalism Spring/Summer 2012 collection. This is what my Alter Ego would look like.

Following on the heels of the equally-stunning Theatre of the Nameless Autumn/Winter 2011 collection, the Spring/Summer 2012 Human Fundamentalism collection is scheduled to launch at Illamasqua.com on 15 March 2012 and on Sephora.com on 20 March 2012. Would you like to know more? Of course you do…and Illamasqua is happy to oblige with an explanation of concept of this collection:

Get ready for a startling celebration of humanity’s connection with colour. Introducing the Human Fundamentalism collection, where blinding flashes of pigment provide a sharp contrast to neutral tones, creating a saturated palette that catapults your alter ego to new levels of self-expression. Mix contrasting textures to express your true self, spiraling from rich metallic to pale matt shades. This is nonconformity at its most fundamental. At its unpredictable best. — Illamasqua

20120311-211405.jpg

Illamasqua's Human Fundamentalism Spring/Summer 2012 collection

This extensive collection is a stunning mix of bolds and neutral colors to use in whatever combination suits you. My eye is totally drawn to the neutral 4-color eye shadow palette and the teal and yellow eye shadow singles.  The nail polishes look nice and definitely look dupeable but what isn’t dupeable is Illamasqua’s amazing nail polish formula.  I’ll definitely be hauling the polishes as soon as I get the eye shadows.

Just so you know, the teal lipstick is an EU (European Union) only product.  That means it can only be sold in the EU.  No they cannot ship it to you if you live outside the EU.  Yes, I have asked Illamasqua.

My haul picks from this collection

A few bloggers were lucky enough to get a first look at the items from this collection. Check out the swag photos here, here, and especially here.

Illamasqua is one of my favorite cosmetic brands due to their attitude, diversity of colors and textures, and the artistry of their collections and photography. In my opinion this is their best campaign to date and another quote about this collection sums it all up for me:

Human Fundamentalism is an explosion of your alter ego. It’s becoming who you are and not who you’re told to be. Beauty isn’t conformity, but the fundamental human desire to express your inner self on the outside. To rise above mainstream limitations and exist in a world where individuality is received with celebration not derision, and breaking the mould is a sign of strength not instability. We stand for freedom of expression, embracing our glorious imperfections and showing the world we’re not ordinary but extraordinary, even if society refuses to accept it. We’re beyond conformity. Beyond control. Beyond hiding who we really are. We are not a religion, but the singular opposite. We are Illamasqua.

Werd.

And with that, enjoy the promo photo picspam and let your ‘alter ego’ set up her shopping list from this collection.

This model looks very 'Jody Watley' and she's posed with a tricked-out ghetto blaster? Haven't seen one of these in years!

20120311-212032.jpg

This is without a doubt a perfect example of the makeup artistry and stellar photography Illamasqua is famous for.

The eye makeup is fierce! This reminds me of 'The Girlie Show' Madonna from back in the day!

Teal hair to match the teal lips--I SO wish the lipstick was going to be sold in the US.

Sneek Peek: Mi Vida Loca ‘True Romance’ palette by Kat Von D

I’ve always seen the Kat Von D True Romance palettes but the colors never really did grab me.  That is, until I saw *this* palette.

20120109-203102.jpg

Mi Vida Loca True Romance palette by Kat Von D. Exclusive to Sephora. How gorgeous is this?!?

The palette consists of eight (8) bright shades and a sparkly blue eyeliner.  It retails for $34 and is exclusive to Sephora.  I probably won’t get a chance to review it completely until after I take it on my trip to Disney World for Easter but in the meantime I’d like to give my readers a look at this cool palette.  Please enjoy the pictures and swatches while you make plans to descent upon Sephora to score this delicious beauty goodness.
