Lust Must: Chanel Eau Premiere

Even after sniffing it and gagging when I was 16 years old, the original No 5 still stinks to high heaven as an old lady. Unless it’s Chanel Chance (which was purposely formatted for young chicks like me who said eeeww to their other fragrances) I steered clear of fragrances from this brand and stayed safe w/ Guerlain and Givenchy.

HOWEVER, I got a sample of the Eau Premiere and it is off the chain! So light. sophisticated and smells like nothing else on the market. The spirit of No 5 is there but it will make you think, “It smells a little like Chanel #5 but doesn’t stink like it.”

$88 for 2oz, $125 for 5oz. Go big or go home.

Rescue Beauty Lounge ‘360’: The Rundown

360 by Rescue Beauty Lounge. 2 coats w/ flash.

According to Ji Baek of Rescue Beauty Lounge: 360′ is a move where the surfer and board spin around on the face of a wave. It also is a gorgeous deep-water aqua blue polish.

According to me, 360′ is the perfect conceptualization of the warm, aqua blue waters around the islands of Fiji in the South Pacific that I have always wanted to visit since I was a small kid cursing the cold northeastern winters. It is aqua perfection in a bottle.

Rescue Beauty Lounge (RBL) 360′ is a beautiful mid-tone aqua blue nail polish with white shimmers in it.  The shimmer is very sophisticated.  It’s not ostentatious at all and adds to the richness of this very unique nail polish.   I can see this color working for all skintones including cool and warm but honestly the biggest impact from this color will be felt as if you have very cool undertones.

As a woman of color, my biggest gripe with mid to light nail polishes is the color can look ‘chalky’ next to dark skin.  I’m happy to say this hasn’t been the case with this color.  It is opaque in one coat but you can’t go wrong with two, perhaps even three.  Application is smooth with minimal to no streakiness of the color when applying.

Makes me want to take a trip to Jean-Michel Cousteau's resort in Fiji.

When it comes to wear, RBL polishes are long-wearing and this color is no exception.  As a software geek who types 120 words per minute on the regular I’ll usually get very minimal tip wear.  The polish does resist chipping longer when used in conjunction with the RBL Treatment System (scheduled to be available for pre-order as a set in early Jan) but I’ve used it with MAC Overlacquer top coat with the same result.

Side note: do not, under any circumstances use Seche Vite quick dry top coat with RBL polishes.  Saying it will be trashed is an understatement. You have been warned.

All Rescue Beauty Nail Polish is 5 free meaning:

· No Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP)
· No Formaldehyde
· No Formaldehyde Resin
· No Toluene
· No Animal Testing

Like other RBL polishes, 360′ is $18/bottle (yes it’s a bit steep but well worth the price).  Available now at:

Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Velvet: The Rundown

Look featuring Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet lipstick in 'La Sensuelle'. Eyes feat Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream in #13 & #17.

I have a love/hate relationship with Matte lipsticks. I love to hate them.

Matte lipsticks usually feel like trying to rub a dry stick on my lips. While the color usually looks nice, they tend to dry out my lips and look very ‘chalky’ or worse, ‘ashy’. And God help you if you haven’t exfoliated your lips. If not, matte lipsticks will usually show up every crack, dent, split and flake on your lips to the power of ten. Not good.

Which is why I was so excited to try Chanel’s Rouge Allure Luminous Velvet lipsticks. I’m a huge fan of the Rouge Allure Satin lipsticks due to their intense pigmentation (an awesome thing for women of color), the elegant ‘click’ case and a color range that goes from the professionally practical to in-your-face crazy with ‘class’. The same size as their shinier sisters, they are priced at $32 USD and are available in eight (8) shades. I’ve swatched seven (7) of those which caught my fancy though frankly all of the shades are beautifully done.

L’Exquise is a beautiful brown that I feel works amazing on women of color–especially for conservative offices and job interviews. L’Exuberante (which I wear in my MAC for Miss Piggy post) is a bold fuschia pink that rivals that of NARS Carthage matte lipstick. La Sensuelle is a strong blue-red that adds an interesting twist to the usual red lip.

Rouge Allure Luminous Velvet lipsticks go on very smooth and creamy. The pigmentation is very rich yet even with the more vibrant tones the color is intriguing rather than shocking. There is some ‘drag coefficient’ but nowhere near what I’ve experienced with some other matte lipsticks. Unfortunately the longevity of the color isn’t as long as it is with the Rouge Allure Satin formula. I did notice a fair amount of lipstick fade after a meal and after a cup of Starbucks but it is a gradual one. Still, considering this is a luxury product, you need to decide for yourself if you want to drop $32 on the unique finish or go with the longevity and standard look of the Satins.

I personally think grabbing one is a nice changeup for your makeup wardrobe if your budget allows.  You can purchase these at Chanel counters in upscale retailers such as Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom, and on
