Preview: Spring 2013-Maybelline Color Tattoo Metal Cream Eye Shadow

Spring has sprung in the budget beauty department too!

New for Spring 2013! Maybelline’s Metal-finish Color Tattoo Cream Shadows

Maybelline has come out with five (5) new metal finish cream eye shadows from the Color Tattoo collection. They are:

  • Inked In Pink – A shimmery warm-toned pink
  • Electric Blue – A deep dark blue
  • Silver Strike – Sparkly and very metallic bright silver
  • Barley Branded – Warm champagne beige
  • Gold Rush – Bright yellow metallic gold

Unlike with Maybelline’s Fall 2012 collection, the Spring 2013 Metal cream eye shadows are not limited edition. They are showing up in the likes of CVS, Target and WalMart. I am currently having fun testing these out and will post reviews as soon as I can.  I did not pick up Gold Rush as the bright yellow looks like death warmed over on my cool-toned skin.  However I can tell you that if you are medium-dark to dark-skinned, definitely pick up Inked In Pink and Barely Branded.  You’ll thank me later.

Preview: Fall 2012 Maybelline 24 Hr Color Tattoo Cream Shadow

Never have I fallen in love with a budget beauty product before like I have with Maybelline’s 24 Hr Color Tattoo cream eye shadows. So picture me very pleasantly surprised when I got word these new beauties were appearing in stores!

Maybelline’s Color Tattoo Cream Eyeshadows for Fall 2012

Limited Edition just for fall 2012, the full collection consists of five colors, four of which are limited edition:

  • Barely Beige  (beige pink shimmer)
  • Gold Shimmer (dark golden bronze shimmer)
  • Rich Mahogany (deep brown shimmer)
  • Mossy Green (olive-gold green shimmer)
  • Bad To The Bronze (taupe brown shimmer/permanent)

Maybelline’s 24 hr color tattoo eye shadows are very long-wearing, humidity and sweat proof (I tested these in Florida and they performed flawlessly)

I really couldn’t find fault with any of these cream eyeshadows. Barely Beige goes on so much smoother than the permanent Too Cool (solar white shimmer) color. Gold Shimmer paired with Mossy Green gives an amazing dramatic fall look to the eye. Rich Mahogany is a beautiful brown that would be perfect for an ‘office safe’ smokey eye when paired with Bad To the Bronze. There is a brush being sold along with these shadows but frankly it isn’t any better than comparable makeup brushes from Ecotools, e.l.f. and Sonia Kashuk for Target.

Maybelline’s Fall 2012 Color Tattoo 24hr cream eyeshadow collection is available currently at Walgreens and CVS and should be headed to mass retailers such as Target within the coming weeks.

Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters : The Rundown

As a woman, lip balms are my friend. As a woman of color, lip balms are my BFF. But lip balms plus color? W00t!!!

Thanks to a tip-off by The Muse, I dropped into my local Target like a Navy Seal to find these beauties. Check out the color lineup I grabbed!

Revlon Lip Butter goodness awaits in the Beauty section at Target!

In December during one of my Target runs I made the wonderful discovery of Revlon’s Color Stay Lip Butters and my life hasn‘t been the same since.  These butters are so smooth, so moisturizing and range from a hint of color you have to build up (like Gumdrop) to full on in your face almost-lipstick color (Lollipop).  At around $6.45 at Target and $7.50 at Ulta and Drugstore.com, is it easy to collect quite a few at a frugal price point.  I’ve had no performance issues with these and only Gumdrop (a pastel lilac) was a little faint and almost gave me Tyrone Biggums lips but by using just a little or layering it over a darker lip pencil made it work fine.  The lighter colors still contain pigment that is translucent enough to give you a nice shine to your lips.

Sneek Peek: Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo Eyeshadow

In case you haven’t seen these yet, Maybelline has come out with a stunning line of cream/gel eyeshadows that are labeled as ’24hr’ shadow. Considering I am a total MUFE Aqua Cream tramp, I still had to grab me a few of these.  They are flying off the shelves at Target and this week Ulta is offering a buy one, get one at 1/2 off.  Print off the coupon (or use the code) on Ulta’s website for $3.50 off $10 purchase.

I will be road testing these over the next week or so and will report my findings but I will say so far they are definitely long-wearing and well worth the price paid.  I’m very pleased with the color payoff of each one I purchased.  So in the meantime, check out the product photos and swatches.

I grabbed the most vibrant shades that appealed to me.

I believe there are at least ten (10) shades available and probably as many as fifteen (15) by now. I have seen a few new shades creeping into displays at Target and Ulta for Spring 2012 so be aware stock at one store may not be the same at another.  Ulta is running a sale this week [1/9/12] where if you buy one Revlon product you can get a second for 50% off. Print out the $3.50 off $10 coupon from their site to rack up the savings.
